Message From Phil
Hello fellow CERT members,
During an emergency, the only way to contact the EOC
will probably be by way of a ham radio. In Addison, I only know of three ham operators, me, Mel Waxman and
Mervin Baranick. That is far from enough.
In order to cover the entire Addison campus, not
only do we need more ham radio operators but we need more active CERT members. There are still several
communities that don't have a single resident in our CERT organization.
Right now there are only 19 CERT members most of
which are not actively engaged in any of the many CERT activities that we have. We need you to become
involved.
I hope it doesn't take an actual disaster to
wake these members to the importance of keeping up with the latest CERT techniques and in keeping the skills
that we learned sharp.
Changes do occur in the field of emergency care
thast we should all be aware of. I am sure that you know that there has been a big change in giving
CPR. Compression only CPR
Although CPR is not a part of the response of a CERT
volunteer, it is still important that we keep up with the latest advances in the field of emergency
response.
Sincerely,
Phil
